Our friends at the National Partnership for Women and Families (NPWF) have issued a strong new report (PDF) on Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, analyzing his judicial history and comments to determine his likely approach to the crucial issues that face Supreme Court justices.
As NPWF outlines, Gorsuch will likely move the Court backward on women’s reproductive rights, including contraception and abortion rights. Gorsuch has a long history of siding with big corporations and the 1% against ordinary working Americans in cases of discrimination on the basis of sex, race and national origin, disability, and LGBTQ status, as well as on worker safety disputes. And Gorsuch’s lack of a judicial record or commentary standing against executive overreach is a crucial missing piece, depriving Americans of the assurance that he would stand independently for the rule of law rather than operating as a rubber-stamp for Trump’s agenda.
Overall, NPWF concludes, Gorsuch’s nomination represents “a threat to women, workers, and all those who face discrimination” — and we completely agree. Call your U.S. senators today and demand that they vote “no” on Gorsuch for the Supreme Court.
