President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Neil Gorsuch, who sits on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, could play a crucial role in determining the legality of the new Administration’s attempts to dramatically alter life in America as we know it. Gorsuch, if confirmed, could cast the deciding vote on a host of measures advanced by Trump to weaken our democratic principles. Those measures include a ban that is preventing innocent Muslims and refugees from entering the country, an investigation into imaginary “voter fraud” that will likely lead to efforts to disenfranchise Americans by making voting more difficult across the country, and a campaign to defang regulations that protect our air, water and food.
We are less than two weeks into the start of the Trump presidency, and the list of outrages is sure to grow. As the Senate considers the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the highest court in the land, Women’s Voices Women Vote Action Fund will continue to oppose the Administration’s attempts to roll back progress on issues that working Americans hold dear. We need a Supreme Court Justice who will represent all Americans, safeguarding our voting rights, ensuring our access to reproductive rights and affordable healthcare, and looking out for the interests of working people, people of color, unmarried women and other historically under-served Americans in our democracy.
