Statement on the Opposition to the Pence-Kobach Commission

September 12, 2017

Statement from Page Gardner, founder and president of Women’s Voices Women Vote Action Fund

“Instead of acting on recommendations that would update aging voting machines and software for voter registration databases, the Pence-Kobach Commission continues to promote the fiction of widespread voter fraud as an excuse to pursue a partisan agenda.  Their all white male panel at today’s meeting that argued raising the voting age ultimately denies the vote to young people taking us back in time. Are they afraid democracy will speak? This commission is a sham, designed to suppress the votes of underrepresented Americans. It is merely an exercise in insinuation, cherry-picking, and outright lies.

We will continue to fight back and are asking citizens to join us by signing a petition that the Women’s Voices Women Vote Action Fund circulated today in a ‘website takeover’ of the New Hampshire Union-Leader, calling on Congress to shut down the Pence-Kobach Commission. We are committed to ensuring that every eligible American citizen can exercise their right to be heard at the ballot box.”
